What is KY-ASAP?

The Kentucky Agency for Substance Abuse Policy (KY-ASAP) was created in the 2000 General Assembly to promote the reduction of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use through the implementation of comprehensive research-based strategies (KRS 12.330).

How Are We Funded?

Tobacco Settlement funds allocated each budget cycle by the General Assembly funds KY-ASAP. Kentucky has prioritized substance abuse prevention for use of these resources.

The Mission of Daviess County ASAP

Our mission is to develop a long-term strategy that is designed to reduce the incidence of youth and adult smoking and tobacco addiction, promote resistance to smoking, reduce the incidence of substance abuse, and promote effective treatment of substance abuse in Daviess County.

Who Have We Funded?

Daviess McLean M.A.D.D. – funding for multi-media shows for three area high schools and two middle schools; prom materials for Owensboro Catholic High School

Daviess County Detention Center GOALS Program

Daviess County Sheriff’s Department – purchased 16 PBT (Preliminary Breath Tester) sets for deputy officers to provide on site testing of those found to be under the influence of alcohol to reduce the problem with an individual’s BAC dropping between the time of the incident and arrival to the detention center for alcohol testing

Daviess County Public Schools – funding for certification training fees for the Dream Rider’s Curriculum for counseling therapy; before school early prevention program targeting students at elementary schools to reduce violence and high risk behaviors

Boulware Center – curriculum for a Marijuana Dependence Counseling Program for forty individuals

Lighthouse Recovery – drug testing / educational classes for recovering members of Lighthouse recovery program

Brescia University – reduction of drinking among underage students utilizing environmental and prevention strategies

H. L. Neblett Community Center –provided “Second Chance at Life” a 26 week recovery program curriculum for recovering members of the community

How Can You Request Funding?

Mini-grant requests ($4000 maximum) are offered in the spring of each year, watch for a notice in the Messenger-Inquirer or email HYPERLINK "mailto:ghall@rvbh.com" ghall@rvbh.com Requests should be in keeping with the mission of Daviess County ASAP.
